Ott Roots

Ott Roots (sündinud 9. mail 1946 Tallinnas) on eesti keemik.

Elulugu

Ott Roots lõpetas 1964. aastal Tallinna 2. Keskkooli ja 1969. aastal Tallinna Polütehnilise Instituudi keemia tehnoloogina. Aastal 1983 kaitses ta Eesti Teaduste Akadeemias keemiakandidaadi kraadi, mille väitekirjas uuris ta polükloreeritud bifenüülide ja kloororgaaniliste pestitsiidide levikut Läänemeres.

1969–1971 teenis ta Nõukogude armees Leningradi oblastis, Tihvinas, olles leitnant.

Aastail 1971–1974 töötas ta Zooloogia ja Botaanika Instituudis nooremteadurina. Aastatel 1974–1984 oli ta Eesti NSV TA Termofüüsika ja Elektrofüüsika Instituudi Läänemere osakonna nooremteadur, 1984–1990 töötas ta Rakendusgeofüüsika Instituudis Läänemere osakonna juhtivteadurina. Aastatel 1990–1992 oli ta Tallinna Tehnikaülikooli Veekaitse Labori juhtivteadur. 1992–1994 tegutses ta Eksperimentaalse ja Kliinilise Meditsiini Instituudi keskkonna kantserogeenide osakonna vanemteadurina. 1993–2000 oli ta Keskkonnaministeeriumi Info- ja Tehnokeskuse seire nõunik, 2000–2002 Keskkonnaministeeriumi Keskkonnakorralduse ja -tehnoloogia nõunik. Aastatel 2002–2005 töötas ta OÜ Eesti Keskkonnauuringute Keskuse seire koordinaatorina ja 2005–2015 Eesti Keskkonnauuringute Instituudi direktor-juhtivteadurina. Lisaks oli ta aastatel 2007–2014 TÜ Eesti Mereinstituudi vanemteadur (ohtlikud ained).

Teadustöö

Uurimisvaldkond: toksilised kloororgaanilised ühendid Läänemere ökosüsteemis, õhusaastuse probleemid. Lisaks materjalide korrosiooniuuringud.

Riigi teaduspreemia kandidaat 1997 ja 2000.
