Mait Metspalu (sündinud Tartus 24. augustil 1975) on eesti evolutsioonigeneetik.

Teadustöö[muuda | muuda lähteteksti]

2005. aastal kaitses ta Tartu Ülikoolis doktorikraadi teemal "Through the course of prehistory in India: tracing the mtDNA trail". Alates 2005. aastast on Mait Metspalu Eesti Biokeskuse teadur. Aastal 2010 oli ta aškenazi juutide põlvnemise lahendanud rahvusvahelise töörühma üks juhte[1] Aastal 2016 avastas tema kaasjuhtimisel rahvusvaheline töörühm, et tänapäeva inimkond on pärit kahest erinevast Aafrika-väljarändest.[2] Metspalu on teadusprojekti "Eesti Genoomikakeskus" juht, mille eesmärk on maailma inimpopulatsioonide referentsgenoomiandmestiku loomine, pakkudes globaalset konteksti Eesti Geenivaramu andmestikule.[3]
