- No, it is not. Links between those two families is not documentally proved. Very reputable source Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels differentates between them. There is a extensive discussion about this controversy at the outset of the article (look below).
- Translation of the first paragraph:
- The proven family line begins with Johann Georg Taube (c. 1750−1830), who was a clerk in Rucava in Kurama at the end of the 18th century and later a post commissioner. His descendant, the historian Michael von Taube (1869–1961), was of the opinion that his ancestor came from the Prussian line of the original Taube noble family. According to him, Johann Georg was the son of Georg Bernhard von Taube, a High Hauptmann of Hesse; he retired from Prussian military service as a lieutenant, moved to Kurama (Rucava was near the East Prussian border), married a girl from the Schultz noble family, and acquired the right to lease a post office in Rucava. This view has been supported by some other sources. However, this statement was opposed by the well-known historian Astaf von Transehe-Roseneck (1865-1946), who presented his counter-arguments in the publication Jahrbuch für Geneologie, Heraldik und Sphragistik at the beginning of the 20th century. According to him, it is not possible to document the connection between the Taubes of Prussia (it was a branch of the Taubes of Estonia) and Johann Georg Taube. One of his objections was Johann Georg's relatively low status. If according to Michael von Taube, he was a baron and retired lieutenant, there is no information about this in the source (allegedly, family documents were destroyed in a fire). Transehe-Roseneck acknowledges that, although it is not really possible to rule out falling to a lower level in the status in society, he considers it to be unlikely. In addition, there is no indication in Rucava's church record that he was of such a high status as a baron or that he was a noble at all.
