Hi! We follow this place names' database and its convention to prefer unabbreviated name forms. I don't think it's necessary to correct it. I understand officially "St. Johann" and alike are abbreviated but "St." after all stands for "Sankt". As you can see Wikipedias in several other languages also prefer unabbreviated name forms.
