The lastname Vanakamar started with Jaak Vanakamar who lived on Kamara mōis near Viljandi. There isn't much information about him in the Tartu archive, but everyone with this lastname descended from his son Peter Vanakamar (1765-1835). Peter's son Märt (1812-1893) was married twice and hence two branches of Vanakamars emerged. This information is based on metric books from Tartu historic archive.
