Aastal 1945. kandideeris Robert Mitchum parima meeskõrvalosatäitja Oscarile filmis Story of G.I. Joe[7].
Alates 1984. aastast omab Mitchum Hollywoodi kuulsuste alleel (Hollywood Walk of Fame) aadressil 6240 Hollywood Boulevard. ka omanimelist tähte[7].
1999. aastal avaldatud edetabeli "AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars" (Ameerika Filmiinstituut) tulemuste põhjal asub näitleja meesstaaride tabelis 23. kohal[8].
