Pealkiri
Early-medieval sleeve clasp: Wrist clasp
Kirjeldus
English: A cast copper alloy sleeve clasp probably dating from the 5th to 7th century. The clasp consists of a rectangular plate, undecorated on either side, with an integrally cast short hook located at the centre of one long edge on the reverse. On the opposing edge are three copper alloy rivets with wide round heads (intact). One of them has a small white insert of an unknown material. The missing, opposite half of the fastener would have had a hole where the lip fitted and secured it. These type of clasps would have secured clothing at the sleeves, in a similar fashion to buttons to the sleeve of a shirt.
