English: Thailand is full of incredible traditions and interesting past times. Heres one of them: the bird singing competition.

Some of these men keep up to 30 singing birds in their home. Through disciplined routines and specific techniques, they train their prized birds to sing in specific pitches, ready for the contests.

There are a few types of bird singing contests in Thailand. The one highlighted in this video consisted of 2 rounds as follows:

Round 1. To advance to the next round, the bird had to sing in 8 specific pitches in the given time period. The time period is determined by the time it takes for the metal bowl (with a hole in the bottom of it) to sink to the bottom of the container.

Round 2. The winner is determined by the bird that sings the loudest and for the longest period of time.

It is fascinating to learn more about these local thai traditions and begin to understand the passion they have for this.

If you have any further info on any of these bird singing contests, we would love to hear about it in the comments section below :)
