English: Sheet copper-alloy bell, possibly tinned, with an iron pellet within. It has a loop at the top formed from a strip of sheet metal soldered to the body of the bell. A slot links two sounding holes in the lower hemisphere, with a slightly thickened edge to both slot and holes while two small blow holes occur in the upper part of the upper hemisphere. A corroded iron ball remains within the bell to serve as its clapper. A medial rib marks the union of the hemispheres. A silvery tint resembling tin plating is especially prominent at the top of the bell and on its mid rib, and may indicate the use of solder to join the components together rather than a decorative coating. The composite construction is deemed to indicate an early date (Blunt nd), and if this is sustained the bell is in superb condition for its age with a still-appealing tinkle. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1450.
