IMPORTANT: Admin activity review
Hello. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc) was recently adopted by global community consensus (your community received a notice about the discussion). According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on smaller wikis. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the new admin activity review here.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for more than 2 years):
#Boy (administrator)
#KS (administrator)
#Lulu (administrator)
#Peep (administrator)
#Priitp (administrator)
#Ulla (administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Thanks, Rschen7754 17. august 2014, kell 06:48 (EEST)

Me ei ole üldse arutanud vikilinkide järjekorda. Õigupoolest on see suhteliselt ükskõik, aga käsitsi on väga keeruline järjestada teisiti kui lühendite järgi. Inglise vikis järjestatakse nimekujude järgi, ja see on sealt üle tulnud, sest ma kopeerime sageli sealt. Andres 06:07, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

See on tegelikult esmane põhjus. Ja on suurim tõenäosus et just inglise wikisse lisatakse link teiste keelte vikidesse, kui mõne teise keele (saksa näiteks) vikisse.
Nimekujude järgi järjestamiseks on ka olemas abivahendeid. --TarmoK 06:29, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Wikizine

Hi, I am w:nl:gebruiker:Walter of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki. I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.

You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.

I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be

I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.

Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.

http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/announce-l

I hope that you and others of your wiki will subscribe to Wikizine and give feedback. So that Wikizine can become really a source where Wikimedians can find out what is going on. Greetings, w:nl:gebruiker:Walter PS: do not repond here. I will not see it.

Click OK

I created the English and Finnish Click OK articles. I'm having trouble in finding information about the group from English and Finnish sources. I was hoping that some one could create a Click OK article in Estonian language. It is an Estonian group and an article in their native language might lead to further growth of the article. Thank you. --Easyas12c

Photos required from Estonia

Hi, I am an editor on English WP, and I am currently working on many various articles for which I require photos from around the world. I am currently requiring photos from Estonia for these articles, and I was hoping that this message would reach a photographer who can take the photos for me. The photos I currently require are listed at en:User:Russavia/Required_photos#.C2.A0Estonia. If any photographers can assist with this, I would be most appreciative. Please leave any comments or questions for me on my English WP talk page at en:User_talk:Russavia as I am unlikely to read replies. Thanks in advance for any assistance which can be provided. a list of keywords

Hello,

I'm doing my project into language processing and I'm using Wikipedia. I want to use several languages in the tests, included the one of this version. And since I need some articles to analyze I wanted to ask for your help. Precisely, some keywords I will explain now.

Actually what I am looking for is a list in your language with the names of those territories which represents an entity of speakers (therefore possible wikipedia contributors) of your language, the name its people or gentilic, and the name of the language (if it is the same language and it has a different name). These territories must be in practice independent from each others or at least be considered so by the speakers. This is the case of colonies, excolonies, other countries which historically speak the same language or minorities attached into the country next to yours.

For example, a list in english something like. "english", "england", "irish", "ireland", "scottish", "scotland", "british", "united_kingdom", "american", "united_states", "canada", "canadian", "australia", "australian", "new_zealand", "new_zealander". Probably there are some others which are not very big but I don't know cuz I'm not familiar.

If you were so kind to produce me this list, I would so appreciate it! Thank you very much!

Foundation Images Policy

Hi everyone,
I am Yosri from Malay Wikipedia. Recently I was informed by certain parties that MS Wiki need to delete any images tagged as Non-Commercial under Foundation Licensing policy. After I have done some studies, I realised that Wikipedia Foundations is moving towards allowing commercialises all images, as such they are acting on behalf of commercial company to require all images loaded with tagging Non-Commercial in all Wiki Project to be removed, including those loaded in local Wiki. You are only allowed to licenses your images under "free content", which specifically allows commercial reuse, example GDLF 1.2. Certain images is exempted under a very narrow EDP ("exemption doctrine policy") definition. If you all already aware about this, please ignore this comment. Otherwise, for more details please visit http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Wikimedia_projects_still_using_non-commercial-only_images.3F Yosri 2. märts 2011, kell 07:06 (EET)[vasta]

Article requests

Does anyone around here do article requests? If so, en:Small Planet Airlines needs an Estonian page at Small Planet Airlines The Estonian language website is at http://www.smallplanet.aero/ee/ so that can be used as a source

Also en:EstDomains should have an article, at EstDomains

Estonia served as an observer state of the en:Interstate Aviation Committee, so I would like to see an article in Estonian about that group too

Images with no license

Greetings All; I am an administrator from the English Wikipedia and also the Commons. I ran a scan of all images here on the Estonian Wikipedia and I found at least 200 that have no licenses. I am wondering if you can speak to the users and add a license to the images. The list of images is at http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasutaja:Zscout370/Nolicense Zscout370 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 11:08 (EET)[vasta]

so please check your robot ? best :) suwa 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 13:10 (EET)[vasta]
The reason why bot listed this image is because you had categorized this Commons image in here. So this in not a bot malfunction but your own mistake. Ivo 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 13:34 (EET)[vasta]
Strange. [1] is clearly named as CC2.5, [2] is GDFL 1.2 & CC-SA 3.0, and [3] has come from Flickr and even confirmed by an image reviewer. I would have thought a bot would recognize these. I can understand that it won't understand the author's (evidently and unfortunately not OTRS-processed) permit from [4] nor the public domain declaration from [5], as those are in Estonian. Evidently, we should notify the authors and uploaders to categorize images properly and translate the according messages. --Oop 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 14:44 (EET)[vasta]
As Ivo said, it's due to local image page existing with no templates added. No worries, copyright info for these Commons images is sufficient. As for Pilt:3 marka 1925 avers.jpg there is no valid license info (more about coins). I believe translating license tags in not required. 88.196.241.249 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 15:57 (EET)[vasta]
We should delete thous pages asap. Commons pictures should not be categorized here. Ivo 2. jaanuar 2012, kell 16:53 (EET)[vasta]
The way that the images were checked is I did a scan of a database dump for the characters {{ that are used in templates, but only in the Files namespace. I did not tag any images for deletion, but just made a quick list for you all to look at. I speak no Estonian. Zscout370 7. jaanuar 2012, kell 20:05 (EET)[vasta]

Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

 • Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
 • New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
 • The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
 • Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
 • Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
 • Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
 • The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
 • More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
 • Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
 • Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
 • Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Note that this cluster does have SUL but it is not integrated with SUL in production, so you'll need to create another account. You should avoid using the same password as you use here. — Global message delivery 15. jaanuar 2012, kell 02:07 (EET)

Update on IPv6

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language. Please consider translating it, as well as the full version of this announcement on Meta)

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

 • At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)
 • In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.
 • We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

Read the full version of this announcement on how to test the behavior of IPv6 with various tools and how to leave bug reports, and to find a fuller analysis of the implications of the IPv6 migration.

2011 Picture of the Year competition

македонскиnorskpolski

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2011 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We are interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year 2011. Any user registered at Commons or a Wikimedia wiki SUL-related to Commons with more than 75 edits before 1 April 2012 (UTC) is welcome to vote and, of course everyone is welcome to view!

Detailed information about the contest can be found at the introductory page.

About 600 of the best of Wikimedia Common's photos, animations, movies and graphics were chosen –by the international Wikimedia Commons community– out of 12 million files during 2011 and are now called Featured Pictures.

From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons Features Pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories.

We regret that you receive this message in English; we intended to use banners to notify you in your native language but there was both, human and technical resistance.

See you on Commons! --Picture of the Year 2011 Committee 5. juuni 2012, kell 21:14 (EEST)

Help decide about more than $10 million of Wikimedia donations in the coming year

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language. Please consider translating it)

Hi,

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Now, seven capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy community members are sought to volunteer on the initial Funds Dissemination Committee. It is expected to take up its work in September. In addition, a community member is sought to be the Ombudsperson for the FDC process. If you are interested in joining the committee, read the call for volunteers. Nominations are planned to close on August 15.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.)

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

 1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
 2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
 3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

For further discussions please use this talk page (if you are uncomfortable writing in English you can also write in your native language there) or point me to the place where your discussion is happening so I can answer there.

Fundraising localization: volunteers from outside the USA needed

Please translate for your local community

Hello All,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. Please sing up and help us with our 'User Experience' project! :) If you are interested (or know of anyone who could be) please email ppena@wikimedia.org. All countries needed (excepting USA)!

Thanks!

Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. **All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be very low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)**

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. If you are interested (or know of anyone who could be) please email ppena@wikimedia.org. All countries needed (excepting USA)!!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition.

Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons.

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Wikimedia Polska scholarships for Wikimania 2013

Hello! On behalf of Wikimedia Polska (WMPL), Wikimedia's local chapter in Poland, I would like to invite those active editors of this project, who wish to take part in Wikimania 2013 in Hongkong (August 7-11), to apply for WMPL's scholarship. It is WMPL's annual tradition that we fund scholarships for Wikimania not only for Polish editors, but also for a group of Wikimedians from other former Eastern Bloc states. The scholarship covers air travel, accomodation, insurance and conference fee. If you would like to learn more or ask any questions, please visit this site. Hope to see you there! Wikidata phase 1 (language links) coming to this Wikipedia

Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this locally.

Wikidata has been in development for a few months now. It is now time for the roll-out of the first part of it on your Wikipedia. Phase 1 is the support for the management of language links. It is already being used on the Hungarian, Hebrew, Italian and English Wikipedias. The next step is to enable the extension on all other Wikipedias. We have currently planned this for March 6.

What is Wikidata?

Wikidata is a central place to store data that you can usually find in infoboxes. Think of it as something like Wikimedia Commons but for data (like the number of inhabitants of a country or the length of a river) instead of multimedia. The first part of this project (centralizing language links) is being rolled out now. The more fancy things will follow later.

What is going to happen?

Language links in the sidebar are going to come from Wikidata in addition to the ones in the wiki text. To edit them, scroll to the bottom of the language links, and click edit. You no longer need to maintain these links by hand in the wiki text of the article.

Where can I find more information and ask questions?

Editors on en:wp have created a great page with all the necessary information for editors and there is also an FAQ for this deployment. Please ask questions you might have on the FAQ’s discussion page.

I want to be kept up to date about Wikidata

Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

(Please consider translating this message for the benefit of your fellow Wikimedians)

Greetings. As you might have seen on the Wikimedia tech blog or the tech ambassadors list, a new functionality called "Lua" is being enabled on all Wikimedia sites today. Lua is a scripting language that enables you to write faster and more powerful MediaWiki templates.

If you have questions about how to convert existing templates to Lua (or how to create new ones), we'll be holding two support sessions on IRC next week: one on Wednesday (for Oceania, Asia & America) and one on Friday (for Europe, Africa & America); see m:IRC office hours for the details. If you can't make it, you can also get help at mw:Talk:Lua scripting.

If you'd like to learn about this kind of events earlier in advance, consider becoming a Tech ambassador by subscribing to the mailing list. You will also be able to help your fellow Wikimedians have a voice in technical discussions and be notified of important decisions.

Wikidata phase 2 (infoboxes) coming to this Wikipedia

Sorry for writing in English. I hope someone can translate this. If you understand German better than English you can have a look at the announcement on de:Wikipedia:Kurier.

A while ago the first phase of Wikidata was enabled on this Wikipedia. This means you are getting the language links in each article from Wikidata. It is soon time to enable the second phase of Wikidata (infoboxes) here. We have already done this on the [first 11 Wikipedias] (it, he, hu, ru, tr, uk, uz, hr, bs, sr, sh) and things are looking good. The next step is English Wikipedia. This is planned for April 8. If everything works out fine we will deploy on all remaining Wikipedias on April 10. I will update this part of the FAQ if there are any issues forcing us to change this date. I will also sent another note to this village pump once the deployment is finished.

What will happen once we have phase 2 enabled here? Once it is enabled in a few days you will be able to make use of the structured data that is available on Wikidata in your articles/infoboxes. It includes things like the symbol for a chemical element, the ISBN for a book or the top level domain of a country. (None of this will happen automatically. Someone will have to change the article or infobox template for this to happen!)

How will this work? There are two ways to access the data:

 • Use a parser function like in the wiki text of the article on Yahoo!. This will return “Marissa Mayer” as she is the chief executive officer of the company.
 • For more complicated things you can use Lua. The documentation for this is here.

We are working on expanding the parser function so you can for example use instead of . The complete plan for this is here.

Where can I test this? You can already test it on test2.

Where can I find more information and ask questions? We have collected the main questions in an FAQ for this deployment. Please ask questions you might have on the FAQ’s discussion page.

I want to be kept up to date about Wikidata To stay up-to-date on everything happening around Wikidata please subscribe to the newsletter that is delivered weekly to subscribed user’s talk pages.

Hello!

There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

How will this work? There are two ways to access the data:

 • Use a parser function like in the wiki text of the article on Wikimedia Foundation. This will return “San Francisco” as that is the headquarter location of the non-profit.
 • For more complicated things you can use Lua. The documentation for this is here.

We are working on expanding the parser function so you can for example use instead of . The complete plan for this is here.

[en] Change to section edit links

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Detailed information and a timeline is available on meta.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

Pywikipedia is migrating to git

Hello, Sorry for English but It's very important for bot operators so I hope someone translates this. Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. There is a manual for doing that and a blog post explaining about this change in non-technical language. If you have question feel free to ask in mw:Manual talk:Pywikipediabot/Gerrit, mailing list, or in the IRC channel. Best Amir (via Global message delivery). 23. juuli 2013, kell 16:09 (EEST)[vasta]

Non-free coats of arms

Hi! I'm going through different wikis that use images of Finnish unofficial coats of arms, such as Pilt:Koijarvi.jpg. As the images are non-free (only official coats of arms fall under PD in Finland), they will have to be deleted from Commons, but before that I'm trying to make sure that local versions are reuploaded to the projects that allow fair use. The question is, are images of non-free coats of arms allowed on et.wp? If yes, what license template can I use for such cases? Logo isn't quite accurate but I haven't found a template specifically made for this purpose either. Thanks, Jafeluv (arutelu) 28. juuli 2013, kell 18:48 (EEST)[vasta]

It is difficult to answer, because I do not know, why these coats of arms will be deleted, and I am not sure, that they will be deleted at all. For example, Pilt:Koijarvi.jpg is not presented for deletion. Who has copyright of unofficial coats of arms? If the coat of arms is copyrighted by municipality, maybe this means, that this coat of arms is official? For example, copyright of Pilt:Koijarvi.jpg is claimed by uploader. I am not sure, that this is false claim. Taivo 2. august 2013, kell 18:08 (EEST)[vasta]
Fair use is prohibited in Estonian wiki. Local copies of files are allowed. I do not know, what kind of license should be used. The template "Logo" is not quite correct, but you can use that nevertheless. Taivo 2. august 2013, kell 18:08 (EEST)[vasta]
The coat of arms was designed by A. W. Rancken (1880–1954) and by default copyrighted for 70 years post mortem auctoris (i.e. until January 2025). It does not fall under the PD exemption (PD-Coa-Finland) since it was never made official. The uploader cannot claim copyright since, according to the Finnish Copyright Council [23], making a drawing based on an existing coat of arms description does not create a new copyright for the person making the drawing.
In any case, I think the question is moot since et.wp does not allow fair use... I was thinking logo would work like in fi.wp (where it is a fair use template), but apparently it only depicts that the image is protected by trademark and copyright has to be indicated separately? (At least that's the impression I get from the (R) symbol and after checking a few of the places where it's used, e.g. Soome SDP logo.jpg.)
I'll propose the file for deletion in Commons shortly. I simply wanted to make sure every project that allows the use of non-free coats of arms has the chance to take them into use locally before they're deleted. Thanks for your helpful answers, Taivo. Jafeluv (arutelu) 3. august 2013, kell 00:49 (EEST)[vasta]

Minu väike poni: Sõprus on imeline

I want to create Minu väike poni: Sõprus on imeline article but I can't speak Estonian. So I need your help.

Here goes mine. The corrensponding article in English Wikipedia is My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic:

Minu väike poni: Sõprus on imeline (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic) is an animated television series created by Hasbro Studios in the United States and produced by DHX Media's animation production unit in Vancouver, Canada (credited as DHX Media/Vancouver from season 2 episode 3, previously known as Studio B Productions). The series is associated with Hasbro's 2010 relaunch of Minu väike poni (My Little Pony) toy line, which also bears Friendship Is Magic subtitle in later releases.
In the United States, it is broadcast on Hasbro and Discovery Communications' Hub Network (formerly known as The Hub), premiering there on the channel's launch date 10 October, 2010 as a preview. In Estonia, it is broadcast on TV3.
Estonian version
The Estonian version, premiered on (when?) on TV3, is narrated by (who?) and produced by (what company?).
Before the official Estonian broadcast, a promotional DVD of season 1 episode 3, which contains Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian audio tracks, was distributed in Estonia. All of the dubbed versions in the DVD, including Estonian version, is different from later official broadcast versions in corresponding countries. The Estonian dub in this DVD is the only Estonian version of Friendship Is Magic which has different dubbing style from the usual Estonian dubbed series.

Metelesku blesku and Estonian

Hi, there is an affair nowadays in Czechia about the expression metelesku blesku, what's a quote from a Czech movie. One of the political parties used it in their campaign song (you can hear it here: http://zpravy.idnes.cz/bobosikova-tvrdi-ze-spojeni-metelesku-blesku-je-z-estonstiny-puy-/domaci.aspx?c=A131004_165628_domaci_cen) and claims that it's not from the movie (Marečku, podejte mi pero!), but from Estonian (with -m at the end of the first word: meteleskum blesku), what's funny. The question is:

1) what does it really mean in Estonian (according to Google Translate it should be "membership level") and
2) is it normal Estonian?
3) Estonian is an agglutinative language - which transformations for example are with this expression possible - is there something interesting (like if this is nominative, how would be an another case or something like that) (in Turkish there is even a funny example: "hit" means hit (song), but hits are "hitler"... :) ).

Thank you very much! --Jiří Janíček (arutelu) 7. oktoober 2013, kell 13:44 (EEST)[vasta]

I don't recognize it as Estonian at all, not even close to something familiar. And those words (or anything similar) aren't in Estonian dictionaries. So, as it is not Estonian, it has no meaning at all in Estonian language. The second word starts with "b" wich is very uncommon for a estonian word and to my knowledge happens only when a word is borrowed from foreign language.--Kyng (arutelu) 7. oktoober 2013, kell 14:08 (EEST)[vasta]
Thank you for the answer! Anyway it might be quite deceptive to judge if there is or is not a word in a language just by a opinion of one person, even if it would be a professor (that taught me professor Newerkla from Vienna, that's why I must say i would love the opinion of more than one speaker anyway ;) If the dictionaries are online, could you link on them, please? Though it is quite probable that GT translates it so just because some supporters of the party (called Hlavu vzhůru!, English maybe Cheer up!) inserted this translation into GT enough times, I want to be so sure as possible. Thank you (all :) ), --Jiří Janíček (arutelu) 7. oktoober 2013, kell 21:23 (EEST)[vasta]
Well, it doesn't sound like Estonian at all. Not even close. Nor I have any idea what that should mean.
"Membership" is "liikmelisus, liikmeksolek" and "level" is "tase, tasand; kiht". So I can't understand how does Google Translate come up with that. Ivo (arutelu) 7. oktoober 2013, kell 21:42 (EEST)[vasta]
If you but it in GT and let it detect language, it thinks it's Norweigan but dosn't translate it anything reasonable (and puting to much trust in GT is unreasonable as well). Introducting Beta Features

(Apologies for writing in English. Please translate if necessary)

We would like to let you know about Beta Features, a new program from the Wikimedia Foundation that lets you try out new features before they are released for everyone.

Think of it as a digital laboratory where community members can preview upcoming software and give feedback to help improve them. This special preference page lets designers and engineers experiment with new features on a broad scale, but in a way that's not disruptive.

Beta Features is now ready for testing on MediaWiki.org. It will also be released on Wikimedia Commons and MetaWiki this Thursday, 7 November. Based on test results, the plan is to release it on all wikis worldwide on 21 November, 2013.

Here are the first features you can test this week:

Would you like to try out Beta Features now? After you log in on MediaWiki.org, a small 'Beta' link will appear next to your 'Preferences'. Click on it to see features you can test, check the ones you want, then click 'Save'. Learn more on the Beta Features page.

After you've tested Beta Features, please let the developers know what you think on this discussion page -- or report any bugs here on Bugzilla. You're also welcome to join this IRC office hours chat on Friday, 8 November at 18:30 UTC.

Beta Features was developed by the Wikimedia Foundation's Design, Multimedia and VisualEditor teams. Along with other developers, they will be adding new features to this experimental program every few weeks. They are very grateful to all the community members who helped create this project — and look forward to many more productive collaborations in the future.

Enjoy, and don't forget to let developers know what you think! Keegan (WMF) (talk) 5. november 2013, kell 21:50 (EET)[vasta]

Call for project ideas: funding is available for community experiments

I apologize if this message is not in your language. Please help translate it.

Do you have an idea for a project that could improve your community? Individual Engagement Grants from the Wikimedia Foundation help support individuals and small teams to organize experiments for 6 months. You can get funding to try out your idea for online community organizing, outreach, tool-building, or research to help make Vikipeedia better. In March, we’re looking for new project proposals.

Examples of past Individual Engagement Grant projects:

Proposals are due by 31 March 2014. There are a number of ways to get involved!

Hope to have your participation,

Proposed optional changes to Terms of Use amendment

Hello all, in response to some community comments in the discussion on the amendment to the Terms of Use on undisclosed paid editing, we have prepared two optional changes. Please read about these optional changes on Meta wiki and share your comments. If you can (and this is a non english project), please translate this announcement. Thanks! Changes to the default site typography coming soon

This week, the typography on Wikimedia sites will be updated for all readers and editors who use the default "Vector" skin. This change will involve new serif fonts for some headings, small tweaks to body content fonts, text size, text color, and spacing between elements. The schedule is:

 • April 1st: non-Wikipedia projects will see this change live
 • April 3rd: Wikipedias will see this change live

This change is very similar to the "Typography Update" Beta Feature that has been available on Wikimedia projects since November 2013. After several rounds of testing and with feedback from the community, this Beta Feature will be disabled and successful aspects enabled in the default site appearance. Users who are logged in may still choose to use another skin, or alter their personal CSS, if they prefer a different appearance. Local common CSS styles will also apply as normal, for issues with local styles and scripts that impact all users.

 1. Boy (administrator)
 2. KS (administrator)
 3. Lulu (administrator)
 4. Peep (administrator)
 5. Priitp (administrator)
 6. Ulla (administrator)
