God Save the King

"God Save the Queen" (originaalvariant ja meessoost Briti monarhi valitsemise ajal lauldav hümn on "God Save the King") on patriootiline laul, mis on traditsiooniline, kuid ametlikult kinnitamata Suurbritannia riigihümn, üks kahest Uus-Meremaa riigihümnist, Kanada ja teiste Rahvaste Ühenduse maade kuninglik hümn ning Briti kuningliku perekonna kuninglik hümn.

"God Save The King" esmaettekanne oli traditsioonilise arvamuse järgi Londonis 1745. aastal. 19. sajandi alguses sai sellest riigihümn.

1745. aasta septembris kaotas prints Charles Edward Stuart Edinburghi lähedal Prestonpansis kuningas George II armeele. Kui uudised sellest jõudsid Londonisse, korraldas Drury Lane'i Theatre Royali orkestri juht "God Save The King"'i esitamise pärast näidendit.

Hümni sõnades varieeruvad sõnad "Queen" 'kuninganna' ja "King" 'kuningas', "she" ja "he" ning "her" ja "his".

Ametlikel puhkudel lauldakse ainult esimene salm, mõningatel juhtudel ka teine.
