Michael James Way (sündinud 10. septembril 1980 Newarkis[1] on USA muusik. Ta on kõige tuntum rokkansambli My Chemical Romance bassistina. Ta on rokkansambli Electric Century multiinstrumentalist ja taustalaulja.[2] Ta on Shaun Simoni visuaalse novelli "Collapser" kaasautor.[3]

Way sündis 10. septembril 1980. Tema vanemad on Donna Lee Way (neiupõlves Rush) ja Donald Way. Ta on šoti ja itaalia päritolu.[4] Mikey Way ja tema vanema venna Gerard Way lapsepõlv möödus New Jersey osariigis Belleville'is. Noorukina töötas Way raamatupoes Barnes & Noble ja hiljem plaadifirmas Eyeball Records.[5]

Vendade Wayde inspiratsiooniks My Chemical Romance'i moodustamiseks oli ameerika ansambel The Smashing Pumpkins.[6]

Wayst sai My Chemical Romance'i bassist aastal 2001. Just tema oli see, kes ansamblile nime välja mõtles, peale Irvine Welshi raamatu "Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance" lugemist.[7]

My Chemical Romance avaldas oma teise albumi "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" 8. juunil 2004.[8] My Chemical Romance'i kolmas album "The Black Parade" ilmus 24. oktoobril 2006.[9] My Chemical Romance avaldas oma neljanda ja viimase stuudioalbumi "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" 22. novembril 2010.[10] Ansambel teatas oma laialiminekust 22. märtsil 2013.[11]

31. oktoobril 2019. My Chemical Romance teatasid, et taasalustavad oma tegevuse ansamblina. Nende esimene kontsert peale pausi toimus 20. detsembril 2019. Los Angeleses.[12] Hiljem nad teatasid 2020. aasta Põhja-Ameerika tuurist, kaasaarvatud mõned esinemised Austraalias, Uus-Meremaal ja Jaapanis. Hiljem lükati tuur edasi 2023. aastale COVID-19 pandeemia tõttu.

Pärast My Chemical Romance'i laialiminekut ei olnud Way üle aasta aja ühegi bändi liige. 2014. aasta alguses teatasid Way ja Sleep Stationi vokalist David Debiak oma uuest projektist Electric Century.[13] Ansambel avaldas oma esimese laulu "I Lied" 26. veebruaril 2014.[14] Samal kuul ilmus Electric Century Alternative Pressi "100 Bändi, Mida Peate Teadma" listil.[15]

2014. aasta novembris teatas Way, et sama aasta veebruaris läks ta ravile sõltuvuse rehabilitatsioonikeskusesse.[16] Ta lausus: "Järgnevatel kuudel kuulete minult ja EC-lt palju rohkem, seda ma võin teile lubada."[16] 3. aprillil 2015 Electric Century avaldas oma teise singli "Let You Get Away".[17] Ansambel teatas oma debüüt-EP-st "Electric Century" 10. märtsil. EP avalikustati 2015. aasta plaadipoe päeval, 18. aprillil.[18] Laulud "Hail the Saints" ja "Right There" ilmusid singlitena 6. mail.[19][20]

Nende debüütalbum "For the Night to Control" ilmus avalikkusele 14. juulil 2017.[21]

Electric Century samanimeline album ilmus 26. veebruaril 2021. Albumi produtsent on My Chemical Romance'i kitarrist Ray Toro.[22]

Koostöö teiste muusikutega[muuda | muuda lähteteksti]

2015. aasta novembris osales Way Good Charlotte'i muusikavideos laulule "Makeshift Love".[23]

Mikey ja Gerard Way aitasid kaasa Andy Blacki debüütsooloalbumi "The Shadow Side" laulu "Louder Than Your Love" loomisel. Andy Black on ansambli Black Veil Brides eestvedaja Andy Biersacki pseudonüümiprojekt.[24] Way salvestas bassi ameerika pop-punk bändi Waterparksi EP "Clusteri" jaoks[25]. Hiljem ta ühines nendega tuuril Good Charlotte'iga, sealhulgas esinedes nendega Readingi ja Leedsi festivalidel.[26] Way oli ka eriline külalis-DJ Emo Nite LA esimesel aastapäeval.[27]

2007. aasta märtsis Way abiellus oma esimese naise Alicia Simmonsiga.[28] Nad läksid lahku aastal 2013.[29]

2016. aasta veebruaris Way abiellus Kristin Colbyga.[30] Neil on kaks tütart, sündinud aastatel 2017 ja 2019.[31]

Way on avalikult rääkinud oma sõltuvusprobleemidest ja karsklusest. Ta on olnud karsklane alates sellest ajast, kui ta oli ravil sõltuvuse rehabilitatsioonikeskuses.[32]
